POEMS

Hippo

A hippo up on a vaudeville stage

Top hat, dress shoes, suit

Gripping a cane

Dancing to Ragtime Doll

A famous vaudeville tune

All in the laughter of the audience

Winter

Winter is here

Cold and chilly

Glint off the snow

It’s color a vibrant white

Like a star at night

I am like

I am like a cloud

Carless and free

The sun

Bright when I want to be

A leaf

Waiting to see were the wind takes me

Mountain

I’m a mountain

Strong and sturdy

Snow on my peak

I feel the wind hit me year round

The birds fly at my base

And animals frolic on my side

While the drink from my stream

Insects pollinate my flowers

Where they make their home in a pine on my cliff

People build a cabin near my lake

And one near a cave

All as the seasons go by

Purpose

What’s the purpose of life?

To research

Our heritage, past, family tree

To experiment

The theory of life, why we’re here, how

To create an analysis

On how to live life

What’s the purpose?

Teachers

Teacher up in front of the class

Always making us laugh

Trying to educate

Not to impress

Only hoping for the best

Friends

Friends are helpful

Fun and fulfilling

They help you through hardship

In your times of hurt

Most of all

They’re there when need be

To help you along

Monkeyz

Smart and funny

Brown and light

Long tails

And opposable thumbs

Our long lost cousins

Jello

Jiggly Jello

Are in different colors

Shapes and sizes

And makes us say

“YUM”

Glowing

Last night I saw something

Glowing in the sky

I watched it hit the ground

And dust started to fly

I went over and touch it

And now I wear a hat to hide

The hair I no longer have

From when I touched that meteorite

Nicknames

Are Funny

And let us have fun

They’re mean

And can hurt our feelings

Most of all they can make or break a friendship

Fire

Fire

An inferno

Blazing hot and cautious

10 feet high and growing

Flame
