STAND UP FOR UPSTATE SCHOOLS REGIONAL ADVOCACY EVENT
SAVE THE DATE: January 22, 2015 at Saratoga High School
A recent poll of public school parents found that 58% see public schools as the single most important institution for the future of their community and the nation. However, across our region, educational programs are being reduced, frozen, or eliminated, largely due to an inequitable distribution system for state aid and punitive Gap Elimination Adjustment (GEA).
A group of concerned citizens from across the region is planning to get together on Thursday, January 22nd at Saratoga Springs High School from 6:00-8:30 pm to talk about what can be done to ensure that every student in New York State receives fair access to a high quality education.
This event will include a brief reception and a panel of students, parents, teachers, administrators and education funding experts, who will share their stories about how the inequity in public education funding has impacted them. Audience members will leave with easy to use tools for raising awareness about the issues our districts face.
If you are interested in attending the STAND UP FOR UPSTATE SCHOOLS event on January 22, please contact the district office at 696-2378 ext. 108 to join the team representing HLCS. Your voice can still make a difference!
>Reform the state aid distribution system to provide more equity.
>Eliminate the Gap Elimination Adjustment (GEA) by the 2015 fiscal year!
>For state building aid calculations, use the same interest rate for state building aid calculations that was used by the state when the capital project was originally bonded.
