SMTMS TAR WARS CONTEST WINNERS

The Warren County Public Health promotes physical and mental health to prevent disease, injury and disability.  Part of this initiative is an annual Tobacco Free Poster Contest. Students can enter a drawing promoting tobacco free communities through education and partnerships.  The winning posters are published in the annual Tar Wars Calendar.  This year two of our very own SMTMS 4th grade students, Preston Allen III and Cassidy Rose, submitted winning posters and are published in in the 2014 calendar. The drawings are featured on the May and June pages at: www.warrencountyny.gov/healthservices/  click on the 2014tarwarspdf.  Congratulations Preston and Cassidy!

 

PANCAKE BREAKFAST

The Senior Class is hosting a pancake breakfast at the Luzerne-Hadley firehouse (9N) on Saturday, February 1st from 8am – 11am.  We are suggesting a $5 per person donation.

 

GRAND OTHERS DAY

The Hadley-Luzerne Elementary School will be holding its annual Grand Others Day on Thursday, February 13th starting at 8:30 a.m. and running until 11:15 a.m. with a half hour of reading spent at each grade level.  In the past this has been a time of great reading enjoyment for both the student and the grand other.  We look forward to seeing many family members and community members participating in this event.   Each child in the K-2 building has brought home information regarding this event.  If your child has not yet returned the slip indicating who their grand-other is, please do so as soon as possible or call the H-L Elementary School at 696-2112 ext. 101 with your contact information.

 

THE CIRCUS IS COMING TO TOWN

On Tuesday, February 18th, during our Mid-Winter Recess, the Billy Martin Circus will perform in the Hadley Luzerne High School Gym at 7:00 pm. Tickets purchased in advanced are only $10 per adult.  Tickets at the door are $15 per adult.  Two children (12 and under) are free with an adult accompanying them.  Purchase your tickets in advance at any of the three main school offices. This is a fundraising event for SADD and Key Club. This is an exciting evening of entertainment and fun for all ages!!  For more information call the Hadley-Luzerne High School Office at 696-2112 Ext. 105.

 

HL KINDERGARTEN ROUND-UP 2014

Hadley-Luzerne Elementary School will be conducting its annual Kindergarten Round-Up on Tuesday, May 6th and Wednesday, May 7th.  The round-up will take place at the Hadley-Luzerne HS George Doherty Gymnasium Lobby, 273 Lake Avenue.  Students are eligible for Kindergarten if they turn five (5) years of age on or before December 1, 2014.  If you read this notice and know of any family member or neighbor with school age children who are eligible to attend Kindergarten, please share this announcement with them.  Please complete the information below and return this form to the H-L Elementary School Office, P.O. Box 200, Lake Luzerne, NY  12846.  You will receive an informational letter that will include a scheduled time for you and your child to attend the HL Kindergarten Round-Up.  This form is also available on our website HLCS.org.  Should you need any additional information about Kindergarten Round-Up, call the H-L Elementary School at 696-2112 x 101.

BOARD OF EDUCATION SEAT

The Hadley-Luzerne Central School District announces the following vacancy on its board of education:  One vacancy for a three (3) year term, commencing on July 1, 2014 and expiring on June 30, 2017 to succeed Karl Othmer, whose term expires June 30, 2014. Petitions nominating candidates for the office of member of the board of education shall be filed with the district clerk at the H-L Superintendent’s Office, SMTMS, 27 Hyland Drive, Lake Luzerne, NY, no later than TUESDAY, APRIL 22, 2014 between 9:00 a.m. and 5:00 p.m.  Each petition must be delivered to the district clerk, must be signed by at least 25 voters of the district or 2% of the number of voters from last year, whichever is greater and must state the name and residence of the candidate that shall fill the vacancy “At Large” at the Annual Budget Vote and Election on May 20, 2014 between 12:00 noon and 8:00 p.m. A copy of such petition may be obtained at the Hadley-Luzerne CS District Office during regular school hours. To qualify formembership on a school board an individual:  Must be able to read and write; Must be a qualified voter of the district, that is a citizen of the United States, at least 18 years; and not a convicted felon or adjudged an incompetent;  Must have been a resident of the district for at least one year prior to the election, but need not be a tax payer;   May not have been removed from any school district office within the preceding one year;   May not reside with another member of the same school board as a member of the same family;  May not be a current member of the school board;  May not simultaneously hold another incompatible public office.  If you have any questions regarding being a board member, please contact any current board member or the Superintendent of Schools, Mr. Paul Berry at 696-2378 ext.108.
