LIONS CLUB PEACE POSTER/WRITING CONTEST

Congratulations to the following Lions Club Peace Poster top eight finalists at the Stuart M. Townsend Middle School:

1st Place – Emily Carter, 2nd Place – Kendan DeBlois,

3rd Place – Zackary Shippee, Gabrielle VanWie, Angel Corlew, Sarina Cole, Logan Thompson and Lyric Rose.

Congratulations to Corey Hass who won a writing award offered by the HL Lions Club for sight impaired students.

H-L LITTLE EAGLES BASKETBALL GRADES 2-6

Starting Saturday, December 14th, basketball for all students in grades 2-6 is being offered under the direction of Mr. Gary Wilson, Mr. Leonard Locke and Mr. Robert Horvath on Saturdays at the Stuart M. Townsend Middle School. The program will generally run in two Saturday sessions: Grades 2-4 from 8:00-9:30 AM and Grades 5-6 from 9:30-11:00 AM in the gym. Students will practice skills, practice games, get fit and have lots of fun!

Practices will be held on December: 14th – 21st

January: 11th  - 18th – 25th

February: 1st – 8th – 15th

March: 1st – 8th – 15th

We are in the process of scheduling some scrimmages with other schools at home and away. Parents need to fill out and turn in the permission slip to participate.  Parent volunteer assistants are welcome to sign up by application. Students must be dropped off and picked up on time or they will not be able to participate.  For more information contact Mr. Wilson 696-2112 Ext. 105 or Mr. Locke 696-2378 Ext. 101.

H-L STUDENT ART WORK

The Hadley-Luzerne Public Library is proud to host an exhibition of artwork made by students of the Stuart M. Townsend Middle School.  6th graders are exhibiting artwork created with printmaking and other techniques, inspired by Ancient Greece.  4th graders are exhibiting collages of figures in action inspired by the French artist, Henri Matisse. The artwork will be on display until mid-January at the public library, Main Street, Lake Luzerne, under the tutelage of their teacher, Mrs. Maya Puchkoff.

ALL-STATE MUSIC FESTIVAL

Three students from Hadley-Luzerne High School were selected to participate in the New York State School Music Association Zone 7 Area All-State Music Festival held at Saratoga Springs High School. The festival was held on November 22 and 23. Jonathan Allan, Olivia Austin and Delbert Clement took part in the Area All-State Mixed Chorus, which was conducted by Amy T. Storey.

A variety of works were performed including:  Peze Kafe, a Haitian Folk Song; Ave Maris Stella, a sacred piece performed in Latin; Hold On, a Spiritual; Come Into My Garden by Z. Randall Stroope; and a vocal arrangement of Rossini’s William Tell Overture.

Pre-K through 2nd Grade Winter Concert

The Winter Concert will be held December 12, 2013 at 9:00am in the Alice Harris Auditorium located at the High School. We hope to see you all there!

PTSA BOOK FAIR/BREAKFAST WITH SANTA

The HL Book Fair is coming!!! Santa is coming!!!

Book Fair Locations – Middle School LGI & Elementary School Thursday, December 5: 8 am – 2:30 pm and Friday, December 6: 8 am – 1:45 pm

On Saturday, December 7th: 8 am – 1 pm Book Fair Location will be in the George Doherty High School Gym Lobby.

Breakfast with Santa is Saturday December 7th, from 8:00 am – 11:00 am in the high school cafeteria

Adults (12 & over) $5.00 per person

Seniors & Children 5-11 yrs. old $3.00 per person

Under age 5 free; (1) Picture per family included – please feel free to bring your camera for additional pictures.

HL Youth Commission will sponsor free arts and crafts activities for anyone interested, in the elementary cafeteria from 8:00 AM to 11:00 AM.

HOLIDAY VENDOR FAIR

The Holiday Vendor Fair is being held on Saturday, December 7th from 8 am-1 pm in the Hadley-Luzerne High School George Doherty Gymnasium.   All proceeds will benefit the Class of 2015.

HLCS EMPLOYMENT OPPORTUNITY

The Hadley-Luzerne Central School District transportation department is hiring substitute bus drivers for $15.16 per hour. If you have the following qualifications, please complete a NYS school bus driver application and submit three references. An application DS-870 can be obtained at the Office of the Superintendent, Stuart M. Townsend Middle School, 27 Hyland Drive, Lake Luzerne or on the NYS Department of Motor Vehicle or HLCS.org website: www.dmv.ny.gov/forms/ds870.pdf  – Applicants should hold a CDL license with passenger and air brake endorsement; must have completed current School BUS Driver 30-hour course; must possess ability to meet all 19-A requirements and must also have an “S” endorsement.
