The Hadley-Luzerne Elementary School has sponsored two special reading events.  Mrs. Hayes, Mrs. Heather Davis and Mrs. Cindy Cook organized the first Family Reading Night for this school year on Tuesday, October 8th.  This was an evening full of families sharing books with their children and listening to books read by some of their favorite teachers.  Teachers who read during the evening were Mrs. Kathy Sutliff, Mrs. Mary Lou Cartier and Miss Laura Arcate. We thank our guest readers that made the night a huge success.  Thanks to our HL-PTSA, each child received a new book to take home at the Family Reading Night.

On Friday, October 4th parents and guests were invited to an assembly with Senator Betty Little, who returned to our elementary school to hand out certificates for completion of the summer reading program “Dig Into Reading!”

Over 75 current students received the award.  Senator Little gave a special commendation to our students for “Having the highest number of returned forms out of 53 schools in her district”.  What a great accomplishment and compliment for our students and their parents.  We will be participating in this reading program again in June.  Let’s all work hard to increase the total number of students receiving this award next fall!  We know we can do it!!!

The month of October is dedicated to Breast Cancer Awareness.  The Hadley Luzerne Central School District will be supporting this amazing cause.  We are encouraging each student in Pre-K to 12th grade to wear pink on Friday, October 18th . We also invite each student to make a $1 donation.  Students may bring in their donation starting Tuesday, October 15th through Friday, October 18th.  The district donation will go to The American Cancer Society.  We can’t wait to see what the power of pink can do!

Come help us celebrate “Hadley-Luzerne High School Night” with the Adirondack Phantoms hockey team at the Glens Falls Civic Center on Saturday, November 2nd at 7:00 pm.  Our high school select choir will be performing the national anthem. Tickets will be available to pre-order through October 25th in the high school office at a discounted price of $13.00 for adults and $11.00 for children aged 14 years and under. Tickets will be reserved and available for pick up at the “Will Call” window at the GFCC, on the night of the game. Just present a photo id to receive your ticket

Since November 1984, the students at the Stuart M. Townsend Middle School desire that all children of the Hadley-Luzerne Central School District have a Merry Christmas.  In a long term service tradition, the students will join Mary Claire Noakes and local community members who work diligently to provide a happy holiday to all.  A Santa Sprint (Walk-a-Thon) will be held to raise money, usually between six and eight thousand dollars is collected.  This provides each needy child on the list with a new present under his/her tree.  All students in grades 3-8 are eligible and urged to participate.  Students will be collecting pledges throughout this month.  Pledge sheets will be collected by volunteers in the SMTMS Hallway during first period on Tuesday and Wednesday, November 12th and 13th.  On Monday November 4th, the Santa Sprint will start at the high school cafeteria at 1:00 pm.  Parent participation is welcome.  Students will board their buses home at the high school at 3:10 pm. The top forty pledge collectors will shop for the gifts on Friday, November 15th.  The SMTMS Student Council will hold a canned food drive during the months of November and December.  Please help support these worthwhile projects.

The purpose of the account is to add an additional media communication method to the school community. Community members are invited to follow us at HL_CSD.

The Holiday Vendor Fair is being held on Saturday, December 7th from 8am-1pm in the Hadley-Luzerne High School George Doherty Gymnasium.   All proceeds will benefit the Class of 2015.  Please contact Cindy Woodcock or Colleen DeMarsh  or call 696-2378 Ext. 136, for a spot to rent.
