WHEREAS, each year, School Board Recognition Week is observed by the more than 700 school boards in school districts throughout the Empire State: and
WHEREAS, the men and women serving as members of school boards are dedicated to children, learning, and community, and devote many hours of service to elementary and secondary public education as they continually strive for improvement, excellence, and progress in education ; and
WHEREAS, the members of New York’s local school boards respond to the educational needs of the communities they serve and, in doing so, these leaders help strengthen our state’s educational system and improve future prospects for our children; and
WHEREAS, during October 29, 2012 – November 2, 2012, special activities and programs will be held in communities across New York State in observance of School Board Recognition Week and it is fitting to join in acknowledging the commitment and contributions of members of local school boards;
NOW, THEREFORE, I, Andrew M. Cuomo, Governor of the State of New York, do hereby proclaim October 29, 2012 – November 2, 2012 as SCHOOL BOARD RECOGNITION WEEK in the Empire State.
We thank our board members for their service and commitment: Duane Moulton, Karl Othmer, Joseph Hanlon, Vance Plante, and Mary Visscher.
On Friday October 12 from 3:00-4:30 the Hadley-Luzerne Teacher’s Association sponsored a highway cleanup on the Glens Falls Mountain Road. We thank them for this effort to clean up our environment!
The HTLA also sponsored a day of fundraising for our student Devin Weiss, diagnosed with Burkitt’s Lymphoma. On Sunday, September 16th our teachers, administrators and staff formed a Circle of Hope on Glen Lake with kayaks and canoes. This event was followed by an indoor benefit at The Blue Moose. All funds were donated to the Weiss family. The sponsors of this event included The Blue Moose, Headwall, Tubby Tubes, Harris’s Grocery, Ketchum Manufacturing, The Longhorn, The Waterhouse Restaurant, Joe’s Mini-Mart, The Full Moon, D.A. West, and HLTA. Thank you to everyone who donated and attended this special event.
HL TECHNOLOGY COMMITTEE
The Hadley-Luzerne Central School District is seeking volunteers to sit on the Technology Committee. The Technology Committee meets five times during each school year and reports to the Board on the activities.
