Superintendent's Views 9/05/12


As we approach the opening day of school, I want to invite you to our ‘Meet the Teacher’s’ night on Thursday, September 20th at 6:30 p.m at the Stuart M. Townsend Middle School.  This is a very important evening.  It is an opportunity to meet your child(ren)’s teacher and to see his/her classroom.  Your involvement in your son/daughter’s education is so important to their academic and social success.  Please stay involved and join us.


Senior year is a time of great excitement and anticipation for students and their parents.  Almost suddenly, the realization of a new beginning is upon us.  Understandably, questions and concerns abound!  In order to initiate the very important process of working together to assure success, you are encouraged to attend Senior Parents’ Night on Thursday, September 20th in the High School Auditorium from 6:30-8:00 pm.  The agenda for this key informational session will include a brief review of graduation status, transcripts, class standing, college applications and financial aid. Please contact Mr. Scanlan in the High School Guidance Office (696-2112, Ext. 114), if you have any questions.



On Wednesday, September 26 2012, Hadley-Luzerne High School will host our annual ‘Meet the Teacher’s Night’ between 6:30 PM and 8:00 PM. Parents are invited to attend this annual event where they will follow the same class schedule as their child, with shortened periods to fit into the evening’s hour and a half time frame. Schedules will be provided in the High School Cafeteria on at 6:30 PM. Schedules begin with first period and end with the conclusion of ninth period at 8:00 PM.  Instructional staff from the high school will also be on hand to answer any questions regarding your child’s high school experience.  We look forward to seeing you at Meet the Teacher’s Night at the High School.



 Hadley-Luzerne schools is extremely excited that the Extended School Day Enrichment program will be offering enrichment from 2:25 – 4:30 five days a week this school year for students enrolled in grades 3-8.  Transportation home is offered as part of the program.  We partnership with the Hadley-Luzerne Public Library and Cornell Cooperative Extension who offer wonderful educational experiences. This program is in its third year and can continue in the years to come, if the program remains successful and utilized by our students.  Applications were sent home with students the first week of school. Having received the Tax Roll for the collection   of the 2012-2013 taxes of the Hadley-Luzerne Central School District, said taxes will be received as follows: September 4 – November 2, 2012, during the hours of 9:00 a.m. to 2:30 p.m. in the lobby of the Glens Falls National Bank, Main Street, Lake Luzerne, NY.

NO COLLECTION WILL BE MADE ON BANK HOLIDAYS.  Taxes may be paid for 30 days from September 4, 2012 to October 3, 2012 without interest or penalties.  On all such taxes remaining unpaid after October 3, 2012 a two percent (2%) penalty will be added to all taxes paid through November 2, 2012, at which time the books will be closed and the uncollected tax list will be forwarded to the County Treasurer.  PLEASE TAKE FURTHER NOTICE THAT FAILURE TO RECEIVE A TAX NOTICE DOES NOT RELIEVE A TAXPAYER OF LIABILITY TO PAY SAID TAX.  TAX BILLS WILL BE MAILED BY SEPTEMBER 1, 2011.  IF YOU DO NOT RECEIVE YOUR BILL WITHIN A REASONABLE TIME, PLEASE CALL THE SCHOOL TAX COLLECTOR AT 696-2112 EXT.137.

If your taxes are in escrow your bank received a copy of the bill for payment.



Representatives from nearly two hundred colleges from around the country will converge on SUNY Adirondack in Queensbury on Thursday, October 4th from 6:00 PM to 8:00 PM for SUNY Adirondack’s Fall College Night. SUNY Adirondack and the Adirondack School Counselors Association will feature representatives from nearly 165 colleges and universities from across the Eastern US.
