BOARD OF EDUCATION

Please be aware there will be a meeting of the Hadley-Luzerne Central School Board of Education on Monday, February 6th at 6:30 PM at the Stuart M. Townsend Middle School.  The public is encouraged to attend all scheduled meetings and your input is welcome and valuable in order to achieve a quality education program balanced with a fair tax burden.

The Hadley-Luzerne Central School District announces the following vacancies on its Board of Education:  Two vacancies inclusive of two members each to a three (3) year term commencing on July 1, 2012 and expiring on June 30, 2015 to succeed Dr. Lori Millis and Mary Visscher, whose terms expire June 30, 2012. Petitions nominating candidates for the office of member of the Board of Education shall be filed with the District Clerk at the Superintendent’s office, no later than April 16, 2012 between 8:00 a.m. and 5:00 p.m.  Each petition must be directed to the District Clerk, must be signed by at least 25 voters of the District or 2% of the number of voters from last year, whichever is greater and must state the name and residence of the candidate.  A copy of such petition may be obtained at the Office of the Superintendent during regular school hours.  Candidates who file a petition will be placed on the May 15, 2012 Ballot.

To qualify for membership on a school board an individual:  Must be able to read and write; Must be a qualified voter of the district, that is a citizen of the United States, at least 18 years of age or older or adjudged an incompetent; (A convicted felon is barred from running if his or her maximum prison sentence has not expired.); Must be and have been a resident continuous and uninterrupted period of at least one year prior to the election, but need not be a tax payer;   May not have been removed from any school district office within the preceding one year; May not reside with another member of the same school board as a member of the same family; May not simultaneously hold another incompatible public office.

GRAND OTHERS DAY

The Hadley-Luzerne Pre-K- Grade 2 building will be holding our annual Grand Others Day on Friday, January 27th starting at 10:00 am and running until 12:45 in the afternoon.  In the past this has been a time of great reading enjoyment for both the child and the grand other.  We look forward to seeing all the family members and community members participating in this event.

3-5 WINTER CONCERT

The Winter Concert for Grades 3-5 has been re-scheduled for February 15th at 7:00 pm in the HS Auditorium.

 

THE CIRCUS IS COMING TO TOWN

On Monday, February 27th, the Billy Martin Circus will perform in the Hadley Luzerne High School gym at 7:00 pm. Tickets purchased in advanced are only $10 per adult.  Tickets at the door are $15 per adult.  Two children (12 and under) are free with an adult accompanying them.  Purchase your tickets in advance at any of the three main school offices.

KINDERGARTEN ROUND-UP

Hadley-Luzerne Elementary School will be conducting its annual Kindergarten Round-Up on Tuesday, May 1st and Wednesday, May 2nd 2012. The Round-Up will take place at the Hadley-Luzerne George Doherty Gymnasium Lobby, 273 Lake Avenue, Lake Luzerne, NY 12846.  Students are eligible for Kindergarten if they turn five years of age on or before December 1, 2012.  If you read this notice and know of any family member or neighbor with school age children who are eligible to attend Kindergarten, please share this announcement with them.  Please complete the information below and return this form to the Hadley-Luzerne Central School Elementary School Office, PO Box 200, Lake Luzerne, NY  12846  You will receive an informational letter back that will include a scheduled time for you and your child to attend the Kindergarten Round-Up.  Should you need any additional information regarding Kindergarten Round-Up, call the Elementary School at 696-2112 x 101.

SUBSTITUTE BUS DRIVERS

The District is in need of substitute bus drivers.  If you have the following qualifications please complete a NYS bus driver application and submit three references. An application DS-870 can be obtained at the Office of the Superintendent, Stuart M. Townsend Middle School, 27 Hyland Drive, Lake Luzerne or on the NYS Department of Motor Vehicle website: www.dmv.ny.gov/forms/ds870.pdf. Applicants should hold a CDL license with passenger and air brake endorsement; must have completed current School Bus Driver 20-hour course; must possess ability to meet all 19-A requirements and must also have an “S” endorsement.
