Interim Superintendent's Views 10/11/11

The PTSA will be holding our annual Fall Festival on Sunday, October 23rd at the Hadley Park from 12-3.  If you would like to be a part of this wonderful festival please contact us on our website at and let us know what you would like to do.  The PTSA will be providing the music, pumpkins, and bounce houses.  This is always a great event.  Thank you as always for all your support.

The Hadley-Luzerne Parent, Teacher, and Student Association and Ms. Michelle Stearns have been working very hard on our anti-bullying program. Tina Meier, a parent from Missouri, will be speaking about her family’s personal tragedy that resulted from cyber bullying. Her daughter, Megan, committed suicide after being bullied by others.  Ms. Meier then founded the Megan Meier Foundation. Ms. Meier will be coming to our District on October 27th from 6:00 to 7:30 pm in the high school auditorium for “parents only” and we will have student assemblies on October 28th.  Tina’s hope is to make a difference through spreading her daughter Megan’s story along with Internet safety and help one child at a time until bullying and cyberbullying are non-existent.

*Tina Meier worked closely with Senator Scott Rupp and Governor Matt Blunt’s Internet Task Force for the State of Missouri to help pass Senate Bill 818, which went into law on August 28, 2008.

*Tina Meier has appeared nationally and internationally on many network television stations, newsmagazines and syndicated talk shows.

*Tina Meier travels throughout the United States as a keynote speaker giving presentations on bullying and cyberbullying to K-12 schools, youth rallies, Internet safety summits, and parent/educator programs.

*Tina Meier’s accomplishments include: receiving the 2009 Humanitarian award from Teen Line in Los Angeles, CA; being one out of 150 people asked to attend the 2011 White House Anti-Bullying Conference; joining Verizon’s 2011 Cyber Safe Philly Summit Series in the Philadelphia and Delaware region; strategic alliance with NASCAR Nationwide Series; and consulting on the ABC Family movie “Cyberbully” which aired in July, 2011.

The mission of the Megan Meier Foundation is to bring awareness, education and promote positive change to children, parents, and educators in response to the ongoing bullying and cyberbullying in our children’s daily environment.  Please visit the website:

The PTSA would like to thank Mr. and Mrs. Gene Merlino and the Lamplight Inn for providing room and board to Ms. Meier.
