SENIOR ATHLETE AWARD

Congratulations to Andrew Hay for being Hadley-Luzerne’s representative for the Section 2 Boys’ Basketball Senior Scholar Athlete Award.  Andrew was honored along with the other Section 2 Boys’ Basketball recipients at an Awards Breakfast on April 3 at the Albany Marriott.  Andrew was nominated by his coach, Gary Wilson, as well as his teachers.  He has done an outstanding job in earning this prestigious honor.

HS INSTRUMENTAL CONCERT

Join us for an evening of light music at the Hadley-Luzerne High School Instrumental Concert on Thursday, April 28, 2011 at 7:30pm.  We will be featuring songs from Broadway’s The Lion King, the Broadway Musical Wicked, the ever popular The Wizard of Oz, the cinema blockbuster Harry Potter, and more.  We hope you can join us!

ESD PROGRAM SMTMS

Extended School Day Program M-Th for Grades 3-5:

Broadway in Luzerne – We are in the process of recording our plays this week. These will be shared on the night of our ESD Celebration, scheduled for May 5th from 4-6 pm at the SMTMS. Please join us!

Sprouts & Seedlings- Our new session will begin immediately following Spring Recess. Students can look forward to learning about growing plants with an interactive website and by digging in the dirt!

Extended School Day Program M-Th for Grades 6-8:

Roving Reporters – We are completing our newspapers this week. These will be shared on the night of our ESD Celebration on May 5th from 4-6 pm. Please join us!

Internet Safety- Students will be learning about Internet safety while building a website, participating in podcasting and will become acquainted with the iPad 2.

Following Spring Recess grades 3-5 will spend one more Friday with the HL Public Library and grades 6-8 will spend one more Friday with Cornell-Cooperative Extension and then the groups will switch.

AUTISM AWARENESS RUN

There will be a 5K Run/Walk on Saturday, April 30th at the Stuart M. Townsend Middle School, Hyland Drive, Lake Luzerne. Registration starts at 8:30 am. The Run/Walk starts at 9:30 am. From 10:00 am – 12:00 enjoy a Bounce House/Face Painting/Balloon Creations/ice cream sundaes/Bake Sale. 5K Runners/Walkers will receive a T-Shirt (while supplies last). Early registration is $20 if received by April 13th, and $25 to register on the day of the run/walk. Donations are accepted: please make checks payable to the Hadley-Luzerne Autism Task Force, PO Box 200, 273 Lake Avenue, Lake Luzerne, NY 12846 ATTN: Barbie Eichorst. Forms are available in any school office. Help Support Autism Awareness!

YEARBOOKS

Yearbooks are now on sale for $40 plus tax. Order forms are available at the HS yearbook room as well as in the HS Office. Please make checks payable to the HL Yearbook Club for the exact amount plus sales tax. For further information please call 696-2112 x113.

HADLEY-LUZERNE UNIVERSAL PRE-KINDERGARTEN

Do you have a child at home who will be four years old on or before December 1, 2011?  Do you know someone in the district who does? If so, your child may be eligible to participate in the Hadley-Luzerne Central School District’s Pre-Kindergarten Program for the 2011-2012 school year. 

Our Pre-K program is designed to operate for 2 ½ hours per day and follows the school calendar.  Two sessions will be held each day (8:15-10:45 am and 11:30-2:00 pm).  A NYS certified teacher and certified classroom teaching assistant will conduct the classes, with a class size of no more than 20 each.  Letters of acceptance will be mailed by Friday, June 24, 2011.  Parents/Guardians are responsible for transportation.  If you are interested, we welcome you to join us on Wednesday, April 27th at 6:00 PM in the High School Media Center for a registration/parent information meeting. Please bring all completed registration materials to register your child.  If you cannot attend the meeting, please submit the required forms by Monday, May 2nd to the Elementary Office. The following is a checklist of forms/reminders needed to help you enter your child into the program:  Registration Form, Physical Form (Physicals will be accepted until August 27, 2011), Birth Certificate and Proof of residency.  Please note your child must be toilet trained.  Please be advised that this is an informational night for parents/guardians only. If you have any questions, please feel free to contact the Elementary School at 696-2112 ext. 101.  We look forward to meeting you at the Pre K registration on April 27th at 6:00 PM.

KINDERGARTEN ROUND-UP

Hadley-Luzerne Elementary School will be conducting its annual Kindergarten Round-Up on Tuesday, May 3rd and Wednesday, May 4th 2011. The Round-Up will take place at the Hadley-Luzerne George Doherty Gymnasium Lobby, 273 Lake Avenue, Lake Luzerne, NY 12846.  Students are eligible for Kindergarten if they turn five years of age on or before December 1, 2011.  If you read this notice and know of any family member or neighbor with school age children who are eligible to attend Kindergarten, please share this announcement with them.  Please send the Name of Child, Date of Birth, Gender, Parent/Guardian, Address, Phone and email address to the Hadley-Luzerne CSD, Elementary School Office, P.O. Box 200, Lake Luzerne, NY 12846.  For further information regarding Kindergarten Round-Up, call the Elementary School at 696-2112 x 101.
