PLEASE BE AWARE THAT THE ANNUAL VOTE ON MAY 17, 2011 WILL BE HELD AT THE STUART M. TOWNSEND MIDDLE SCHOOL, LGI ROOM, 27 HYLAND DRIVE IN LAKE LUZERNE. This is a change from the previous year’s location. Petitions for anyone interested in running for the position on the Board of Education are available at the Superintendent’s Office at the Stuart M. Townsend Middle School. Deadline for candidates to turn in petitions is April 18th by 5:00 pm. Absentee Ballots will be available starting April 25th to qualified voters of the Hadley-Luzerne Central School District who are unable to vote in person on May 17th for reasons specified by law. Voters must complete an application for an absentee ballot in order to receive a ballot, unless the voter’s name is on the county permanently disabled list of absentee voters. EXTENDED SCHOOL DAY PROGRAM
For the first five weeks Monday – Thursday students in grades 3-5 will be working with friends to stage a play in a program called Broadway in Luzerne. Students will have specific parts to play so attendance is important. On Fridays, these same students will be at the middle school working to create a movie of their own choice, sponsored by the Hadley – Luzerne Public Library. After five weeks the program will change to Sprouts and Seedlings, followed by Roving Reporters.
Students in grades 6-8 will be Roving Reporters for the first five weeks Monday –Thursday. Students will have specific tasks assigned so attendance is important as they and their friends publish a newspaper and newsletter. Fridays these students will be at the middle school working with Cornell Cooperative Extension on winter survival skills, snowshoeing, and wilderness navigation. After five weeks their programs will change to include Internet Media and Comic life.
Be on the lookout as students bring home fliers for their current programs – these will include important information related to each session.
AUTISM AWARENESS RUN
There will be a 5K Run/Walk on Saturday, April 30th at the Stuart M. Townsend Middle School, Hyland Drive, Lake Luzerne. Registration starts at 8:30 am. The Run/Walk starts at 9:30 am. From 10:00 am – 12:00 enjoy a Bounce House/Face Painting/Balloon Creations/ice cream sundaes/Bake Sale. 5K Runners/Walkers will receive a T-Shirt (while supplies last). Early registration is $15 if received by March 30th, $20 if received by April 13th, and $25 to register on the day of the run/walk. Do you have a child at home who will be four years old on or before December 1, 2011? Do you know someone in the district who does? If so, your child may be eligible to participate in the Hadley-Luzerne Central School District’s Pre-Kindergarten Program for the 2011-2012 school year.
Our Pre-K program is designed to operate for 2 ½ hours per day and follows the school calendar. Two sessions will be held each day (8:15-10:45 am and 11:30-2:00 pm). A NYS certified teacher and certified classroom teaching assistant will conduct the classes, with a class size of no more than 20 each. Letters of acceptance will be mailed by Friday, June 24, 2011. Parents/Guardians are responsible for transportation. If you are interested, we welcome you to join us on Wednesday, April 27th at 6:00 PM in the High School Media Center for a registration/parent information meeting. Please bring all completed registration materials to register your child. If you cannot attend the meeting, please submit the required forms by Monday, May 2nd to the Elementary Office. The following is a checklist of forms/reminders needed to help you enter your child into the program: Registration Form, Physical Form (Physicals will be accepted until August 27, 2011), Birth Certificate and Proof of residency. Please note your child must be toilet trained. Please be advised that this is an informational night for parents/guardians only. Hadley-Luzerne Elementary School will be conducting its annual Kindergarten Round-Up on Tuesday, May 3rd and Wednesday, May 4th 2011. The Round-Up will take place at the Hadley-Luzerne George Doherty Gymnasium Lobby, 273 Lake Avenue, Lake Luzerne, NY 12846. Students are eligible for Kindergarten if they turn five years of age on or before December 1, 2011. If you read this notice and know of any family member or neighbor with school age children who are eligible to attend Kindergarten, please share this announcement with them. Please send the Name of Child, Date of Birth, Gender, Parent/Guardian, Address, Phone and email address to the Hadley-Luzerne CSD, Elementary School Office, P.O. Box 200, Lake Luzerne, NY 12846. You will receive an informational letter back in April that will include a scheduled time for you and your child to attend the Kindergarten Round-Up. Under the Direction of Mr. Diamond and Mr. Sussman, the Hadley-Luzerne Baseball program started on Saturday, March 4th and will run each Saturday until April 16th.
Grades 4-6 are from 8:00 – 9:30 am and Grades 2-3 from 9:30-10:30 am at the SMTMS.
ES & HS TALENT SHOWS
The PTSA will be holding a Talent Show again this year for grades PK-8 on April 29th. The High School will hold their Talent Show for grades 9-12 on April 8th.
We expect these two evenings to be filled with lots of stars and entertainment!
