Fall 2006

The first project “Water Quality” is due Friday, Sept. 15.

Before we go out on the field, we need to become familiar with the variables that impact water quality. We will spent the first week in the media center doing research on this list:

A. nitrates

B. phosphates

C. sulfates

D. alkalinity

E. dissolved oxygen and percent saturation

F. carbon dioxide

G. pH

H. turbidity

I. temperature and its effect on D.O.

J. chlorides and salts

The students will have detailed worksheets to follow for their project.

We will go to the beach on Lake Luzerne and do water sampling. The next day we will perform chemical tests on the water to determine the quantitative values of the above variables in the water.

Each student will graph his results using Excel and write a formal lab write-up.
