Welcome to Third Grade and Mrs. Ostrander’s class/Room 501.  This page and website should give you all the information you need to help your child be successful in third grade.  Below you will find the homework assignments and any other information that might be required or needed from our class.  If you ever have any questions, please feel free to contact me at school on 696-2378 or through e-mail at ostranders@hlcs.org.

Homework Policy:

Students will be given daily homework assignments Monday-Thursday.  Occasionally, this will include Fridays.  These assignments will be written down daily in your child's homework folder.  Parents need to sign the assignment sheet EACH DAY!  Incomplete homework will result in completing those assignments during recess.  Notes will also be sent home regularly- please take a few minutes to look through your child’s homework folder.  You never know what treasures you might find.  A weekly newsletter will be sent home to let you know the great things we are doing.  Keep an eye out for it!

*   Don’t forget a healthy snack each day.

Spelling:                 Your child will have a pretest/introduction on the spelling words on Mondays.  They will have their regular, scored test on Thursday.  There will be 15 words to achieve a 100% with 5 bonus words for one point each.  Your child could potentially receive a 105% each week.   There will be a second chance to receive a 100% or above on Friday.  Please see the spelling website for the weekly words.

Reading:                 Reading will open up a world of adventures for your child.  They can be whoever they want and go wherever they want through books.  Your child’s reading assignment is to read each evening for 15 minutes.  These reading assignments will be used towards Book It and other reading programs throughout the year.

Math:                      Not only will your child have regular math homework, which generally includes Fact Practice but will also have a homework page to complete.  This homework is similar to the classroom practice that you will find on the opposite side of your child’s take-home sheet, Side A.
