Program Note: Supporting Healthy Families In Our Communities-Free Program for Parents/Caregivers of Preschool Age Children
Every parent at one time or another has questions and concerns about discipline and healthy eating for their growing children. Have you ever worried about what and how much your child is eating? Do you have a “picky eater” in your home? What about dealing with challenging behaviors? At a loss at what to do?
Join educators from Cornell Cooperative Extension for the Supporting Healthy Families Program beginning Tuesday, February 28th from 6:30-8:00 p.m. in Queensbury. This new six-week program combines tried and true basic parenting tools with healthy lifestyle skills. It is a unique opportunity for parents/caregivers to learn how to foster healthy relationships while learning both about discipline and nutrition.
The Supporting Healthy Families Program is targeted to parents/caregivers with children in the pre-school years – a time when eating behaviors are developed and parents can be confused on how to parent and nurture a growing child. The program is free, fun, interactive and will provide cooking demo’s, prizes, and incentives in a supportive setting.
Pre-registration is requested by calling Cornell Cooperative Extension at 668-4881 or 623-3291.
This program is sponsored by Cornell Cooperative Extension Warren County with the generous funding support of the Glens Falls Foundation.
Warren – Washington County Care Project
County Youth Have the Chance to Display Projects, Activities, and Talents!
Warren County Youth, 5 to 19 years of age, are invited to exhibit items they have made in school, in Scouts, or just did for fun at the 2011 Warren County Youth Fair on Saturday, August 6th. All youth have the opportunity to earn ribbons. In addition, youth 5 to 19 years of age have the opportunity to earn cash premium awards from the New York State Department of Agriculture and Markets for their work. Exhibit categories range from creative arts, photography, clothing and textile projects, to pets, food, natural resources, vegetable gardening, horticulture, and mechanical sciences. All projects are subject to the rules for specific departments and fair books are currently available free of charge at the Cornell University Cooperative Extension office during office hours of 8:30AM to 4:30PM Monday through Thursday.
Judging Day for the exhibits is scheduled for Friday, August 5 from 1:00 pm to 8:00 pm at the fairgrounds on Schroon River Road in Warrensburg. The youth and their exhibits are judged face to face based on the capability of the youngster, and not by comparing one youngster and/or exhibit against another (referred to as the Danish system; this allows for more than one placement at each level). Some exhibits will be selected to go to the New York State Fair in Syracuse. The judging experience helps youth gain appreciation of workmanship and helps improve their skills, techniques, and confidence. The exhibits must be displayed for public viewing on Saturday, August 6th from 10:00AM to 2:00PM at the fairgrounds.
A youth talent show is scheduled for Saturday, August 6th. The talent show is divided into two divisions; the mini (ages 3-12) and maxi (ages 13-21) and are scheduled for 11AM and 1PM respectively. The talent show is guided by NYS Fair guidelines and the top winners have the option of attending the NYS Fair Talent Show.
Exhibit entries are due to the CCE office by July 15th. Please note all exhibitors and their families should plan to bring a picnic lunch to enjoy as there will be no food vendors on the grounds. For more information on how to exhibit at the Youth Fair please contact the Cornell Cooperative Extension Education Center in Warrensburg (623-3291 or 668-4881) or visit Extension’s web site at: http://www.cce.cornell.edu/warren/
