No Frills Capital Project Proposed for Community Vote

After several years of discussion and research with district architects, the Hadley-Luzerne Central School District Board of Education is proposing a capital project to replace 80% of the roofs at both the Junior/Senior High School and Stuart M. Townsend Elementary School, remove and replace a fuel tank at the Junior/Senior High School, and replace boilers at the Elementary School. These critical infrastructure items are well past the end of their useful lives and will be replaced with energy efficient solutions that will position the district well for decades to come.

The total cost of the proposed capital project is $12 million, which will be funded through the use of NYS Building Aid, $750,000 from the Capital Reserve Fund, and the issuance of bond anticipation notes and serial bonds. The average annual tax impact of the project is estimated to be $0.293 per $1,000 of assessed value. For example, for a home valued at $100,000 with no STAR, the average annual tax impact is estimated to be $29.32.

Voting for the capital project will take place on Wednesday, December 17, 2025 from noon to 8 p.m. at the Stuart M. Townsend Elementary School.

A Public Hearing on the project will take place during the regular Board of Education Meeting on Monday, December 8, 2025 at 6:30 p.m. at Stuart M. Townsend Elementary School.

Notifications In Case of School Closures or Delays

With winter weather on the way, we want to remind families how we’ll share school closing and delay information.

If there’s a weather-related closing or delay, we will:
  • Send a ParentSquare notification directly to families
  • Post updates on our district website and social media pages
  • Share information through the School Closing Network with local media outlets

Please note that WNYT/NewsChannel 13 no longer participates in the School Closing Network. To check our status, please look for our updates on Spectrum News, WRGB/CBS 6 Albany, or WTEN/News 10 Albany.

Thank you

Streamlining ParentSquare Notifications for Posts

We're excited to announce an improvement to how you receive notifications for posts from our school. Soon, if you use the ParentSquare app and have both app and text notifications turned on, you'll receive post notifications through the app, with text notifications sent only as a backup when needed. This smart delivery system will simplify and streamline how you receive your school communications.

What's changing?
Currently, you might receive duplicate notifications for posts via both the app and text message.
With this update:

  • App-first delivery, with text as fallback: When a post is shared, you'll receive a notification through the app first, with a backup text notification only if needed. This applies to posts, post digests, and updates to posts.
  • No change for time-sensitive messages: Direct Messages and alerts will continue to be delivered via your preferred methods.

Why it’s changing
This change streamlines how you receive post notifications. By reducing the number of notifications sent to your device for each post, it will be easier for you to keep track of school updates in one place.

What do you need to do?
No action is required from your side! If you already use the app and have both app and text notifications turned on, you'll automatically benefit from this smart notification delivery.

If you haven’t downloaded the ParentSquare app or turned on app notifications, now is a great time to do so. This gives you the best way to access and customize classroom communications on your mobile device.
