Dear Hadley-Luzerne Families,
While we experienced our fair share of inclement weather this year, the timing of these events enabled the town and highway departments, and our buildings and grounds staff, enough time in the mornings to safely transport students to school by using two-hour delays rather than full days.
The NYS Board of Regents requires all school districts in the state to have 180 instructional days. Our local labor contracts require staff to work up to 180 days.
Hadley-Luzerne Central School District built five emergency days into the 2025-26 school calendar for a total of 185 days. To date, we have only had to use four emergency days. As a result, the district is in a position to return one unused emergency day to students and staff.
Barring any unforeseen need to close between today and the last day of school, we plan to give back this one unused emergency day as indicated below, meaning school will be closed on the following day:
Should we need to use emergency day(s), school will be in session on May 22, 2026.
Thank you,
Burgess Ovitt
Superintendent of Schools
