Mr. Reynolds, Student Teacher Ms. Munson, and four students from HLCS welding class traveled to Brooklyn to TW Smith Corporation Gas and Welding supply for a welding competition at their facility.
Landan Barber, Loghan Palmatier, Ryan Novotarski, and Cooper Bunzey were chosen chosen to compete after winning a student welding contest here at HLCS.
The TW Smith competition consisted of four categories: MIG, TIG, Stick and Overall Winner. The students, as well as Mr. Reynolds and Ms. Munson, competed against 30+ welders from around NYC.
Having a 30-minute time limit, our students used the MIG welder and a bucket of horseshoes to design and sculpt their creations. Judges looked for creativity and quality of welds.
The students were also taken on a tour of the facility to see how the cylinders are exchanged and filled.
Each registrant (free to register) was provided with lunch, a t-shirt, and $125 store credit to get some cool welding gear or supplies to take home!
A BIG Congratulations to Mr. Reynolds, who placed 1st in the MIG category with his skid steer creation. He won a Makita hand held grinding tool!
